

| MARRIAGE LICENSE You must obtain a Marriage License before you can be married. Both the Bride and the Groom must be present when applying for the license at a South Carolina County Courthouse Marriage License Bureau. The Courthouses are usually open from 8:30-4:30 Monday through Friday, but you should call to verify the hours before you go. There is a 24 hour waiting period before the license can be picked up. When applying for the license, you must pay CASH. They do not take checks or credit cards. A driver's license and social security number will be required for identification by both the Bride and the Groom. No blood tests or physicals are currently required in South Carolina. You do not have to be a resident of South Carolina. Marriage licenses do not expire in South Carolina so you can apply for it well in advance of your wedding date. Any SC issued marriage license can be used in any county of South Carolina. If you are under 18, special rules apply so please call the courthouse in advance. YOUR WEDDING CANNOT BE PERFORMED WITH A MARRIAGE LICENSE. Give all of the copies to your officiant. CHANGING YOUR NAME AFTER THE WEDDING Some brides choose to keep their last name after marriage, but if you plan to change it Change Your Name and Address if applicable on the following: Driver's license, Car Registration, Car Insurance Health Insurance, Social Security Records, Voter Registration Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Will, With Your Employer Professional License, Passport Social Security requires that you file an SS-5 form during the same fiscal year that you are married for tax purposes. You must have an ORIGINAL signed certificate of marriage in order to change your Social Security Information and your Drivers License. |
